The Richard Hurford Trio is built on a love of the classic jazz piano trio tradition, and blends this with elements of more modern jazz as well as blues, soul and funk. At its heart are three friends and long-time collaborators — Richard Hurford (keyboards), Martin Fox (bass) and Roger Boddy (drums) — who share a love of music and the joy of playing live.
Richard Hurford is a pianist and composer whose playing moves effortlessly between lyrical jazz ballads, soulful blues and funk-infused improvisation. On bass, Martin Fox provides a deep, steady foundation and a wonderfully melodic approach that shapes the trio’s feel. Roger Boddy, on drums, brings energy, taste and swing in equal measure.
We have performed at jazz clubs, the Chickenshed Theatre, festivals, private events, and a range of other venues, bringing an open, expressive approach that adapts beautifully to intimate rooms and larger stages alike.
Our debut album In Good Company captures the trio’s live energy and interplay, and features some special guests: the soulful Jacqui Heron on vocals, versatile Paul Hilder on voice and guitar, and expressive saxophonist Nick Rabin. It is available in multiple formats:
If you are planning an event, festival or club night that would benefit from a soulful, contemporary jazz trio, we would be very happy to talk. Get in touch and let’s explore what we can create together.
